Our Project Teams
Our project teams provide hands-on opportunities to design, build, and compete while developing skills in CAD, manufacturing, robotics, and engineering design. In 2026-2027, our chapter is focusing on ASME’s Student Design Competition (SDC), with plans to grow into additional ASME competitions such as the Human Powered Vehicle Challenge (HPVC) and Innovative Additive Manufacturing 3D (IAM3D) Challenge. As our teams and membership grow, we hope to expand into more competitions and projects that give students the opportunity to take engineering concepts from the classroom to the real world.
Competition History:
Human Powered Vehicle 2016-2017
Goal:
► Design and build an aerodynamic vehicle to compete against other universities in Las Vegas, Nevada. The competition consisted of four phases: safety check, presentation, drag race, and an endurance race.
Highlights:
► For our bike (El Niño) we created an internal cooling system using a solar powered fan
Student Design Competition 2017-2018
Goal:
► Design and build a robot to compete in a game of soccer in Pomona, California. The competition had a multi-game stage where the top teams competed in a semi-final and final round.
